The ICD-10 CM/PCS online training includes interactive content, inline quizzes, unit exams, and interactive learning activities related to ICD-10 CM/PCS, including individual courses in Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, and Pathophysiology. In addition, the content includes access to the ADAM™ online interactive Anatomy application, the 3M™ Encoder – medical encoding software, and the World Health Organization manuals for ICD-10. The courses are facilitated by AHIMA™ certified ICD-10 CM/PCS coders providing students with continual access to industry experts. Beginning in June of 2012, students will have online access to patient records as part of a faux-patient record system.
TRAINING GOALS
The training has been designed to meet the following goals:
- All course components are available completely online to both incumbent and new workers in the healthcare field
- Students have access to AHIMA™ certified ICD-10 CM/PCS facilitators, trainers, and instructors
- Courses are available for incumbent healthcare workers as professional development and for new students preparing to enter the workforce through an accredited Washington State higher education training program
- Access to supplemental course materials and to facilitators is available beyond the training period
BEST PRACTICES
- Material for the course was developed by a group of experienced AHIMA™ certified coders and trainers working as subject matter experts in the field, with a cumulative total of 70 years of experience in medical coding.
- Course material was developed based upon material from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA™).
- Students can participate in the course through an online environment that is facilitated by a group of experts in the field of study.
- Students have access to supplemental materials, such as the ADAM™ Online Interactive Anatomy and the 3M™ Medical Encoder, resources and applications that are considered to be state of the art in the industry.
- Students will maintain their access to facilitators, other students, and course content for up to 9 months beyond the completion of the course and may opt to maintain access beyond that time.
